Formal email

Dear Mrs Rosta

I saw your advert online yesterday. I wonder if you could answer some questions .
Firstly, can you tell me how I can make my own T-shirts? Can I send a picture from a magazine or can I send you a photo by MMS?
Furthermore, could you please inform me how much a T-shirt costs? You say that your prices are amazing,  but do they change according to the size and material or not?
I look forward to receiving more information from you so that I can send you my design.

                                      Yours sincerely,
Nikos Kokkinos

A letter to Kylie

Dear Kylie,
It was great to hear from you . If you do not know much about sharks and dolphins, you will learn a lot there at the trip. If you were lucky, you really enjoy it!
First of all I want to explain to you that you will have a fantastic time there, but there are some dangerous things that you must be careful with. Although the sharks are very cute, I should warn you that you should not get too near them. If you are lucky, you will touch the friendly dolphins. When I went, I did not get seasick on the boat but other children got seasick so you must be ready for the trip (and take seasickness tablets). However, I had a fantastic experience.
If I were you, I would take a camera/video with me to take photos and video because the view of the trip is pretty and I do not want to forget this experience. I suggest taking waterproof clothing because maybe you will walk when It rains. You will also need a suntan or hat because you will walk in the morning when the weather is shiny. It would be a good idea to take with you seasickness tablets I think they will help you or your friends. I hope you have a good time!
I look forward to your reply and tell me how you spend your time on the trip.
 Kisses,
       Maria

A letter to Sean

Dear Sean,
I am so happy to hear from you and that you are going to a Greek island.
Last year I went to one of the most beautiful islands ,Santorini. If you have never ridden a donkey, this is the perfect place to do it.You can see the amazing sunset and you can swim in lots of beaches.Generally, in Greek islands the weather in summer is very hot and you have to be careful. Also you have to protect yourself from donkeys because sometimes they are little devils!!!
I know that you are from north Scotland and you aren't used to hot weather, but you have to buy some clothes!Fist, you will need lots of T-shirts because it's very very hot in summer. What's more you will need shorts. You need insect reppelent because there are a lot of mosquitoes! Finally, the most important thing that you need is a hat to protect you from the sun.
Well, I think that's all.If you want to ask me about something else, you can send me an email.I wish you to have a beautiful and amazing trip!

Best Wishes

If I were you, I'd take a camera with me, because there are lots of moments to capture and never forget them.It would be a good idea if you take with you suntan cream and hat. You'll also need seasickness tablets.I suggest taking waterproof clothing with you because the dolphins are little devils!

A letter to Kylie.

            Hi Kylie,

It was great to hear from you and that you're going on an amazing trip. How many days does your trip last?
I had an unforgettable time in my trip last year. If you don't know much about the sharks and the dolphins, you'll learn a lot of inforation about them, such as what they eat and where they live. Although the dolphins are friendly, I should warn you that the sharks are very dangerous and you have to come face-to-face with them! However, if you're lucky, you will swim with dolphins and you won't notice that a shark was going to bite you!

If I were you, I'd take goggles with me and I suggest taking a swimsuit. You'll also need an underwater camera for videos with the dolphins and the sharks and a knife, if something goes wrong!

Well, I think that's all. I hope you have a good time.
      Bye for now,
           Elpidoforos.

Informal letter giving information

Hi Kylie
It was great to hear from you .When are you leaving ?
I had a fantastic time at my ecological trip last three months  , I learn about wildlife , but the hours are long , and  I should warn you that you have to get up early. If you don't know about strange species of animals and birds , you 'll learn all about them there. Moreover, everyone was friendly.
If  I were you , I would take a video camera , binoculars , insect repellent and heavy boots. I would take insect repellent because in these areas there are many flies. I suggest taking a torch too.
I hope you have a good time.

                                 Best wishes
                                      Nick

Writing a letter to Mrs Jackson about the babysitting group

Dear Mrs Jackson,

Thanks for your letter. How is John? I heard that he was ill.

I'd really like to join your babysitting group, because I need money. I have always got on well with young children. I am confident with them and I believe that most of the children will love me. I'll try to be more organised, mature and responsible with them.

Unfortunately, my friend George goes with his family on holiday every weekend. However, as my twin brother, Bill, loves young children, he will join your babysitting group. He's a bit immature, but he is very responsible and organised. He is also patient with young children so don't worry about anything!

I look forward to my first babysitting mission.

Love,
Elpidoforos

~The best place for a day out~

Dear Editor,

I am writing to nomimate "TALOS Plaza" for the best place for a day out.

"TALOS Plaza" has been inspired from the better known department store called "Mall", in Athens. The great thing about it, is that it is situated in front of the sea, so you will have a spectacular view of the sea and the atmosphere is magic and clear. Every year, this place is visited by a lot of people, especially adolescents and middle-aged people. "TALOS Plaza" has a wide range of different kinds of shops. There are some shops, where you can find clothes, shoes and bags. In these shops, apart from clothe stuff you will also find some jewellery and make-up stuff. Moreover, there is a huge shop where you can find necklaces and beads, make your own necklace and be sure your creativity will automatically increase d. I was impressed when I first saw it. However, these are not the only things you can do there. There are some cafes, fast-food and traditional restaurants, a "game" room for the video games lovers and many other facilities.

When we decided with my friends to spend our day in "TALOS Plaza", it was absolutely fascinating! I have to say, that it was one of the best decisions we have ever taken.First, we saw a movie at the cinema, then we went to the "game room" and played some games. After that, we went to the beach in front of "TALOS Plaza". Then, we went back and ate at one of its restaurants and finally we went to a cafe. The girls and I were looking at the shops all the time, so the the boys let us to take a look at all shops. However, the did not come with us. They sat at the "Sports Cafe" and they were watching football matches and playing some games until we finished. It was a day out we particulary enjoyed.

To sum up, "TALOS Plaza" is a brilliant place for a day out and I recommend it to anyone. I hope this place wins the competition.

Yours faithfully,
Vasiliki Tziraki

Comments: Fantastic letter, Vassilikoula! The only (small) problem seems to be that you sound too informal even though it is a letter to the editor of a newspaper. We'll discuss more tomorrow. Great blog post, as usual!

The best place for a day out.

Dear Editor,

I am writing to nominate Agia Galini as the best place to go for a day out.

Second paragraph: general information about the place---> where is it? What can you do there?

Agia Galini has some really beautiful beaches and hotels to stay in and it is definitely worth going! (You used present simple and now past simple, why?) The sea there was gorgeous and peaceful. It was the best place to calm down and relax. We were also impressed with the food!In the hotel we were staying the food was brilliant and we enjoyed every single delicious piece of it! Another aspect of the visit that we particularly enjoyed was the rooms and the people! Our rooms were big and clean and the people were so kind and helpful that we were feeling like home.

All in all, Agia Galini is, (comma) in my point of view, (comma) is the best place to go on a day out.I think that you will relax and feel peaceful and that is what everybody wants for a day out. That is why I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

Yours faithfully,
Tilemahos Kastrinakis.

Comments: That is an amazing text Tilemachos, full of new words and phrases, but why has paragraph two disappeared? :-) Be careful with the paragraph plan and be ready for more blogging adventures!

Visit Lygaria!

Dear Editor,

I am writing to nominate Lygaria as the best place for a day out in Heraklion Crete!

Lygaria is very peaceful place to spend a day out with your family or friends. It has one of the most beautiful beaches in Crete and also its sea is just wonderful. Lygaria is like a closed beach surounded by some awesome hills that makes it perfect. Because of that, there are many waves. Lygaria's sea is absolutely clean, because instead of water is has a cliff at the beginning of the sea and then some rocks and just a little bit of sand. At Lygaria you can't do many activities, like go windsurfing (unfortunately, you can't go surfing because there are no waves), you can drive a jet ski or be driven and just stay in an inflatable banana. Also, you can go scuba diving if you want! Lygaria is not only known about the beaches but also about the food they make there and how open handed are the locals are there. You can buy lots of souvenirs there and eat some delicious seafood. Even though (no comma here) it hasn't got many hotels, you can just rent some houses which look to the sea. Lygaria also has many attractions that you don't have to miss!

Well, the first time I went to Lygaria it was 2-3 years ago and the reason was that my cousins invited me there for a day there. They had already rented an apartment there a few days before. So I went with my family. In the first sight I got amazed from that natural beauty that, that small place possessed. I did many things there with my cousins and my other relatives there: we swam , we ate, we dived from the hills and also went exploring the place and the sea with our masks. The sea inside was brilliant with all that colourful sea animals that we saw there. We played rackets there, too!

To sum up, even though it is not such a touristic place, (comma) it really is an extraodinary place and I could spend weeks there without leaving for even a day! I would definitely recommend it to everyone who wants to spend a day out or even their summer holidays.

Your faithfully,
Kristian Vishka
Further comments: Kristian, your text and photo are amazing as usual, but be careful when you write a letter to the editor. It must be a little more formal. It is not a magazine article. We'll say more in person. Great effort!

An informal letter to Pam

Dear Pam,

How are you? Thanks for your last e-mail. I'm glad you're well. I hope everything's fine there. By the time, is your mother doing fine? I really enjoyed the housewarming party and I had great time there!

Before the party I was a little nervous and streessed at first, but after when all the guests turned up and I started unwind, I had so much fun. After the party, the House looked as if a bomb had hit it! On the floor were spilled drinks, there were bottles everywhere and pieces of pizza in the sofa. There were plastic cups and plates scratted around the House. It was horrible! It took me awhole day to clean up the mess! My parents weren't there so I had to tidy up alone! Regarding the photographs, tanks for those that you sent me! They were very funny! I noticed that some photos were missing, such as the one where mary is acting like a dog! It's really funny! I'd like to put it on our blog!

Concerning your diary, three days ago I found it under the sofa. If you want I'll bring it with me when I visit you. Would you like to have it right now?

I'd love to admire your new house. I'm going to come next month. Is that OK? It will cool to hang out with your friends and go sightseeing, too. I heard that the historical places is very popular. Also, I would like to see your CD collection because I love the kind of music that you prefer.

Write back soon! I can't wait to meet you!

                                              Best wishes,
                                                           Marinos

Dear David,

As for my personal details, I'm Marinos and I'm the same age as you. Thanks for your letter. I'm glad you wrote to me after you found my profile on the Webpal International site.

I was born in Heraklion and I lived here ever since with family. Heraklion is the largest city on Crete. I live in a family house which is about 20 minutes from the center by car. My school is only 10 ninutes' walk from there. In my area there are many different shops to buy some souvenirs. For example supermarket "Chalkiadakis" is near my house. Moreover, my house is near a gym and in front of it is a park with different kinds of trees and flowers. Furthermore, I have got a sister who is 15 years old and her name is Rafaela. Also, I haven't got a pet but I want one! My parents disagree with me.

I spend my spare time listening to music because it relaxes me and also the lyrics make me more enthusiastic. My favourite Pop singer is Rihanna. In addition to that, I really like to hang out  with my friends and go to the cinema on weekends. Also, on Sundays my family and I usually go to our village and meet my grandparents. A witness to a crime !!!

                             A witness to a crime

Dear Marinos,
How are you? Thanks for your letter. It was great to hear from you.
I didn't tell you in my last letter that I was a witness to a crime! I was on holidays in Malibu, California. While I was passing by a gas station, I heard someone who shouted ''Help, help''.
I saw a tall man had a gun and wanted the money of the cash desk. The cashier refused to give him the money and then the burglar shot the cashier. In the gas station were three customers and the burglar killed the two of them. I called the police immediately. When the police came, the burglar had left.
After two months the police caught the burglar. Last week was the court trial and I went as a witness! The judge told me that the burglar is guilty and he will be in prison for life !!! I was scared and excited because I saved a person!
I think that the decision of the judge was very good and proper!!! What about you? Anyway write soon and tell me all your news!!!

                                              Best wishes,
                                                  John

A letter to the editor of a newspaper

Dear Editor,

I recently read an article in your newspaper by Georgia Brown with the title "Stop the pop".I would like to disagree.
To begin with, there are a lot of groups that are talented, such as "Onirama".Thet are amazing musicians and an excellent band. Also they give live concerts and they write thought-provoking lyrics.
Secondly, there are also a lot of pop stars that are creative, such as Taylor Swift. She has an exciting, relaxing music and she is creative. She takes risk with new styles of music, too.
In conclusion,I would like to say that there are a lot of creative and hard-working pop singers.Music is relaxing and important to our life.

Yours faithfully,
Eva Chrisostomaki

A crime

           Dear Mike,

How are you? Thanks for your letter. It was great to hear from you.
I told you in my last letter that I had seen a burglary . Well, I didn't tell you very much about it. Last Monday around 10:30 p.m., I was going for a walk when I saw a man who was running out of a house in my area. He was about 23 years old and he was carrying a wooden box. I understood that this box was heavy. Then the man went inside a get-away car.
Just then, a middle-aged woman ran out of the same house. She was shouting "Help, help, a thief in my house!". Immediately, I called the police and I report this fact. Then two policemen arrived at this house and looked for evidence. They found some fingerprints which belonged to an unknown person and the owner of this house. I really felt very frightened, but I was a bit calm afterwards.
Finally, we read in a news paper about this crime and we answered What happened exactly?
That's it! What about you? Anyway, write soon and tell me all your news. Please write your opinion about this burglary!

Love,
Marinos
