Something about myself

Could you tell something about your family?

My family includes me,my brother and my parents.
My brother lives in Athens because, he studies at university,but me and my parents live in Heraklion.

Could you describe your neighbourhood to me?

In my neighbourhood there are a lots of flats.
There is a problem with the parking and
we can find cars parked on the pavements.
But,there is also a lot of trees and flowers 
and all the neighbours are kind and hospitable.

What do you like about your local area?

What I like most in my local area are the
parks,because I can go cycling with my friends and
we sometimes play football.

Is there you would change about your neighbourhood?

No,I wouldn't change anything apart from creating places
or parking because,there is a problem in my neighbourhood.

How often do you go to the city?

I am not going a lot of times to the city
because,I have a lot of homework and I have
to study.The most  that I go to the city is at the weekends and
especially with my friends.

What do you like doing in your freetime?

In my freetime I like doing a lot of thins.
Par example I like going cycling,playing football
or basketball with my friends,watching the newest films online and finally listening to music
from my mobile phone!!!

Could you tell me something about your family?

In my family there are three members, my parents and me. I'm an only child, but I always long for a sibling. My father's name is Chronis and my mother's name is Stella.They are teachers in primary school.My father is a Head Master

Could you  describe your neighbourhood?

I live in a crowded neighbourhood.There are lots of houses and shops. There are traffic on the streets and the air is polluted because of the fumes.Near my house there are three schools abd one park,where sometimes I go with my friends.Also there is a theatre nearby.Although my neighbourhood is very polluted, there are many places to chill out with friends and have fun!

What do you like about your local area?
My local area is nice.There are lots of trendy shops,restaurants and schools nearby. It only takes me five minutes to walk to shops.But my school is far away.However lots of my friends live nearby, so I can meet them easily.There are lots of parks, where children can relax and have a good time.

Is there anything you would change about youw neighbourhood?

 I like my neighbourhood, but it would be good if there was less pollution.Also I would like it if there was a cinema or a bowling alley nearby.I thimk that planting some trees would be a good idea too.


How often do you go to the city? 

I love going to the city and spending time with my friends at shops and at the restaurants. But I can't do it every day,bacause I have school and other lessons in the afternoon.I usually go to the city centre once a week.

What do you like doing in your free time? 

In my freetime I love dancing and listening to music.Also I spend time with my friends.Sometimes we go to the city centre an sometimes we stay at home to relax!

If you are a teenager, don't waste your time

Nowadays teenagers don't have a lot free time, because they have a lot of homework. However, if they have free time, they will waste it!Some teenagers in their free time they watch TVor they play computer games instead of hanging out with friends or reading a book. In my opinion, teenagers must spend their time doing creative things!

Don't waste your little free time

In my opinion teenagers shouldn't waste their few free time.They should develop it.For example if the have lost some English lessons they should use that time to do everything that they lost at the lessons.Or they can read some English books to practice their pronunciation.That's all about my opinion about teenagers shouldn't waste their few free time.

My school and what I like about it.

My school is in the centre of Heraklion.The professors there are very friendly and kind with us, except our maths professor who is a bit strict and rude.My school is big with a very big basketball,football and voleyball court for us to play.In addition to this, I like the fact that it has a lab and a gym with many lights in them.Unfortunately, my school hasn't got a library with many books so I can't find many books from there.I like that the majority of our professors are kind with us.

J:Oh!I have to ask you a lot of things.First of all,tell me something about yourself.
S:Ok!I am thirteen years old and I live in Heraklion.I love playing the piano and the guitar.I am outgoing and sociable and I love helping the other people.
J:That's very good.Could you describe your family to us?
S:Of course!There are six of us in my family.My dad,whose name is Manolis and he's a maths teacher.My mam,whose name is Panayiota and she's a philologist.I have also three siblings.My eldest sister whose name is Mary and she's 26 years old.She's a civil engineer.My brother whose name is Nick,is 24 years old and he studies electrology.My other sister whose name is Nassia,is 20 years old and she's studies architecture.Even though I said that there are six of us in my family,we have also a dog whose name is Chloe and in my opinion it's a member of the family,too!
J:Wow!What a big family!Ok!Tell me something about your home and your local area!
S:Ok!I live in a flat which is situated in a busy residential area!My home has got three bedrooms,two bathrooms,a living room with a dining room,a kitchen,a hall room and a nice balcony with amazing flowers.My house is on the second floor.About my area now..My area how I've already said isn't quiet..It has got a lot of residents.Several of my neighbors are very annoying.Although,my neighbourhood is noisy,I like it because there are a lot of dogs there and Chloe can bark wherever she wants but if the time that she barks,isn't suitable,she must get into house!I also like my area because it only takes me five minutes to walk to the shops and school!
J:Perfect.Would you like to change something in your area?
S:Oh yes....If  I could I would change some of my neighbors who get on my nerves!

Hey guys! Welcome to our TV show "bits and pieces"! Today, our guest is Vasiliki Tziraki who is going to tell us some information about herself:

Jou: Welcome Vasiliki, how are you?

Vas: I'm fine, thanks! 

Jou: So, Could you tell me something about your family?

Vas: There are four of us in my family. My father, whose name is George and he is a professor, my mother, whose name is Dionisia and she is a professor too and finally my sister, whose name is Maria and I. We are both students. I also have a half-brother, whose name is Gregory and he is a lawyer.

Jou: Oh, that's not a small family! Could you describe your home to us?

Vas: I actually live in a flat on the first floor. I live in a noisy area, in the city centre with many trees.My home has got two bedrooms, one salon, the kitchen and the bathroom. It has also got a long but small balcony.

Jou: What do you like about your local area?  

Vas: In my area, I like the fact that it only takes me ten minutes to go the shops. 

Jou: Is there anything you would like to change about your local area?

Vas: Yeah, it would be good if there were more friends o' mine. But that's something that cannot change so I endure it. 

Jou: What do you like doing in your free time?

Vas: In my free time I mostly like chilling out on my bed and listening to music. But that's lazy so I play volleyball, I hang out with my friends and now I'm studying English because I have to pass one class in two months.

Receptionist: Hello! You are talking with one of the receptionists of Beach Hotel. How can I help you?

Customer: Hello.I would like to ask you some questions about the hotel and book a room.

R: Of course...What would you like to learn about?

C: First of all,how much do the rooms cost?

R: The room for two people costs 70 euros,the room for four people costs 140 euros and the suite costs 200 euros.

C: Okay!The prizes are a little bit expensive...please,give me more details about the rooms.What has every room got?

R: Our rooms are luxurious!They include a TV,a small living room,a big bathroom and an attractive veranda with extra-ordinary flowers and amazing view of the sea.They also include a small kitchen which is fully-equipped.

C: That sounds brilliant!Has the hotel got a swimming pool?

R: Of course,it has.And it has also got a playground,a sauna and a nice restaurant which is open from 8 a.m. to 11.30 p.m.

C: Perfect!And does the hotel provide a room service and a laundry service?

R: Yes,of course!

C: Ok!I will discuss it with my husband and I will call you soon!

R: I am looking forward to your call!

R: Hello! Ble Sea Hotel here. Can I help you?
C: Yes, please! Could you tell me how much the rooms cost?
R: Of course! If you want a single room, it costs about 50 euros per night. However, if you want a double room, it costs about 100 euros per night and if you have children it costs about 110 euros per night.
C: Thank you! Moreover, could you inform me if you have a swimming pool? I would like to know if you provide a room service too.
R: We haven't got only one swimming pool. We have four swimming pools, so you can swim whenever you want. Of course we provide room service and laundry service too. It's our responsibility to take care of our customers.
C: Thank you again! Would you mind telling me what time the restaurant opens and closes?
R: Our restaurant opens from 8:00 a.m to 11:00 pm. Then, it opens again from 13:00 p.m to 16:00 p.m and fin:ally, it opens from 19:30 .m to 22:00 p.m. But if you want something the time that the restaurant is almost closed, you can buy something from our canteen, which is open all day and all night for you.
C: Perfect! Can I ask a final question? What other facilities do you have?
R: You must know that our hotel is fully equipped. As you already know, we have a restaurant, four swimming pools, room service, a canteen, and laundry service. We also have a bar room, a gym (because everyone want to keep fit), a sauna, a telephone in every room and access to the Internet of course.

1. What do you like doing in your free time? Do you prefer doing acting or restful?

In my free time I like to relax in my house, but sometimes I meet my friends and we go to play football  or we go to the cinema.

2. Do you enjoy listening to music?  What kinds of music do you like?

I like listening to music because it helps me relax. I don't prefer a special kind of music , I listen to different kinds.

3. Tell us about your English teacher?

Our English teacher is a very good teacher and friendly with the children. Also she has a great sense of humor and she tells us jokes all the time to reduce boredom and have fun.

4. Do you enjoy studying English?

I like to study English, but sometimes we have a lot of homework so I don't enjoy it very much. Generally, I prefer to study English than my school subjects.

5. Do you think English will be useful for you in the future?

I think that English is the most important language from all the other languages and it is very useful for a child's future. That is, because English is the global language, so if you travel to other countries you can communicate with local people better. Also, if you want to find a job in the future, English is one of the most important qualifications.

In my free time I like to do many things. Firstly, if I am tired I like doing something restful like listening to music which is very relaxing for me, or playing with my dog. But quite often I like doing active things. I like playing football and volleyball with my friends. Futhermore, I like cycling. Also, I like going out with my friends and having a great time with them.

 

11) Do you enjoy listening to music? What kinds of music do you like?

 

I really enjoy listening to music. If I am tired I relax by listening to slow music. But my favourite type is pop music. Pop music makes me dance.

 

12) Tell us about your English teacher.

My English teacher is called Christina. She is very beautiful and a good teacher. She teaches us a lot of new things which are very important for our lives and she always hopes the best for us!

 

13) Do you enjoy studying English?

 

I enjoy studying English because I obtain valuable knowledge. Also, I learn new things that will be useful for me in the future. However, sometimes I am bored with all the excercises that we have to do.

 

14) Do you thing English will be useful for you in the future?

 

I think English will be very useful for me in the future. English is a global language so it's very important for me to know this language. Also, if I know English I can travel anywhere I want. Moreover, I can use this language after I set up my own business and then, if I communicate with local and foreign customers, I will be a successful person.

10) What do you like doing in your free time? Do you prefer doing something active or restful?

     To be honest, I don't have much free time, but in my free time (but when I do) I usually do something restful. I am keen on reading books and watching movies (especially crime movies with adventure and mystery). I also enjoy listening to music and sketching. However, I like doing active things too. I love hanging out with my friends and going to the cinema. I also like dancing and I have dance lessons five times a week.

11) Do you enjoy listening to music? What kinds of music do you like?

     I love listening to music, because it makes me happy and helps me when I need to relax. My favourite kind of music is Rock. I listen to music everyday, when I study, when I go and when I return from school and even when I am trying to sleep. Music is a very important part of my life and I couldn't live without listening to music.

12) Tell us about your English teacher.

     Our English teacher is called Miss Christina and she is a very innovative and creative teacher. She helps us learn English in many different ways like playing games, using the computer and reading world-famous English books. She is very funny and friendly with everyone and we have a great time in class. However, she is strict when it is necessary and in my opinion that is a very good ability too. To sum up, Miss Christina is one of the best teachers I've ever had.

13) Do you enjoy studying English? 

    I enjoy studying English, because - except from the fact that I like all the foreign laguages - I believe English is the most important language and it will be very useful for me in the future because I want to travel and live abroad.

14) Do you think English will be useful for you in the future? 

    There are many reasons I believe English will be useful for me in the future. Firstly, because English is our global language and if you know English you can communicate easily with everyone. Moreover, an English certificate is an essential qualfication for almost every kind of occupation. Also, by learning English we broaden our knowledge and it give us some further education.  In addition, English will be very useful for me because I want to travel and live abroad.

10) What do you like doing in your free time? Do prefer doing something active or restful?

  I like doing plenty of things in my free time, both active and restful. First and foremost, I enjoy hanging out with my friends. When we meet we usually go downtown at a cafe, or we go to the cinema. We sometimes organize parties on Saturdays. Another active thing I love doing is playing volleyball. I'm a player in a team and I practice twice a week. In addition to that, I'm keen on reading books with adventure or fiction and especially English. Also, I really like listening to music.

11) Do you enjoy listening to music? What kinds of music do you like?

  I really enjoy listening to music, because it gives me energy, it makes me cheerful and sometimes I need it to relax. My favourite sorts are trance, elecrto and generally dance. I listen to music when I am in my bedroom by my computer, or when I walk down the street from my phone. I often listen to music when I study. 

12) Tell us about your English teacher.

  Miss Christina is a young brilliant teacher with many abilities. She is also creative and that's because she doesn't want us to learn something only in an ordinary way, but she teaches with alternative ones (for instance by using a computer and the Internet), which turn out to be really useful. However, she is strict whenever it's necessary. Apart from that, Miss Christina is friendly with all of her students and she encourages them for the best.

13) Do you enjoy studying English? 

  I enjoy studying English, because it's a further useful education, which affects positively the way I think and behave. I'm incredibly proud of the fact that I'm studying it with success. 

14) Do you think English will be useful for you in the future? 

  Of course I believe English will be useful for me in the future; firstly in travelling, because it's an important qualification,  as it is the universal language. It's also a means of communication that helps us to speak with people from foreign countries and learn different things about their culture. That means that by learning English our mind's cultivation is extended.Then, English helps me obtain knowledge that will be an inevitable part of my life, because I want to study and live abroad.

In my free time I really enjoy hanging out with my friends, playing computer games and listening to music . I find  very boring doing restful things very boring so I prefer doing active things like playing football, going to the cinema, going cycling and going to the town centre with my friends .

Do you enjoy listening to music ? What kinds of music do you like ?

As I said, I thing music is a very important part of my life. Always when I come back from school I always am going go to my room and I am listening listen to music for thirty minutes to relax from school. That helps me to do my homework happily and easily. There are many kinds of music that I like but I think rap and pop are the most amazing! One of my favourite group is Mellises. Every day I listen to almost five of their songs.

Tell us about your Englisch teacher.

My teacher is fantastic. She always has a big smile on her face. She wants us to improve and learn the English language in the best way. I think that sometimes she is very strict with us but this can't stop us from loving her. Also she is very beautiful, clever and very creative.

Do you enjoy studing English?

Yes, I really enjoy studing English. I believe that it is very interesting and exciting. Also by learning English you can see the culture and the attractions of England.

Do you thing English will be useful  for you in the future?

Yes, of cousrse. English is the global language and almost all the world  can speak it .So when you want to communicate with people from the other side of world, it is easy to have a good conversation with them if you speak English fluently.

11.What do you like doing in your free time?Do you prefer doing something active or something restful?
In my free time I usually watch TV,playing computer games,listening to music or read a book. I don't have so much free time these days because I have a lot of homework but I usually read a small book or watch a movie. These are restful things but as I said before I don't have so much free time to do something active. But I am having ballet lessons three times a week so I exercise a lot.

12.Do you enjoy listening to music?What kind of music do you like?
I really enjoy listening to music because it relaxes me.I usually listen to pop music. If I like a song I find the lyrics and then I sing karaoke. Sometimes I read the review of this song but not very often because I don't care so much what the other people say.

My English teacher is very beautiful with black long hair. She is very kind and funny.We always learn further information about English and England and we always enjoy the lesson with her.

Yes, I really enjoy studying English because it is an excellent and a not very difficult language. I also learn new vocabulary and I improve my grammar.

Yes, because it is an global language and I obtain valuable information from it. It will be useful if I travel to another country and I want to communitate with other people or set up my own business.

PET Speaking Questions

Do you come from a large or a small family?
In my family there are the four of us: my mum called Androniki, who is a school consultant, my dad called John, who is a civil engineer, my 11-year-old sister called Marianna and I. We aren't a large family but we are happy together.

Do you often see your grandparents?

In fact, I see my mum's parents every day because they live in the same apartment block with us, (comma) but to be honest I don't often see my dad's mother.

Do you get on well with your sister and what kind of things do you do together?

Actually, a few years ago we didn't get on well with my sister at all. She didn't behave good  treat me well, so we used to quarrel all the time. However, now she has changed a lot. She isn't rude to me anymore and we can do lot of things together. We are going (go: present simple for habits) shopping, we are chatting (chat) and we are having (have) fun and we play many games together.
